Spring apparel and specials

April 27th, 2014

There is nothing like heading out for a ride on a warm spring day.  Even better, is to do it with style!  Check out our recent arrivals of warm weather apparel.  We are stocked with fitted shorts, jerseys and bibs from Pearl Izumi, Specialized and Cannondale.  If loose-fitting styles are more for you, check out our huge selection of baggy shorts and jerseys from Royal Racing, Dakine, and Specialized.

Searching for a sweet deal?  We have clearance racks for men and women filled with clothing from past seasons. Pick up some closeout items from last summer or some discounted cold-weather apparel.

And don’t forget the bike!  Show your bike some love by scheduling it for a tune-up.  Our mechanics give free estimates on service during all hours of operation.  If the warm weather has you pining for a new scoot, talk to a salesperson about your cycling needs and budget.  They will be happy to help guide you in your selection process.

Fat bikes are here!!!

February 6th, 2014

With chilly temps expected to linger here in the Pikes Peak region, so will snow-packed trails.  Fear not…the Specialized Fatboy has arrived! Incredibly nimble (weighing in around a svelte 32 pounds), with a SRAM 2 x 10 drivetrain and 4.6 Ground Control tire, the Fatboy is the all-weather bicycle of the season.

Our first wave of Specialized Fatboy Comps have arrived with the upgraded Fatboy Expert anticipated soon. More snow will likely be on the way.  Whether you’re commuting to work or hoping to sneak in some singletrack, keep the wheels rolling through this wave of winter with a Fatboy!

December 19th, 2013

Still thinking about gift ideas for the cyclists in your life?

We have many must-haves for both the seasoned and recreational rider.  Stuff their stockings with the essentials – cycling socks, energy food, arm warmers, or gloves.

Get them ready for the spring riding season with an indoor trainer from CycleOps or Wahoo fitness.  Pick up a training DVD or mountain bike video for the cold, snowy days on the trainer!

We also have plenty of bicycle-inspired gift items.  What cyclist doesn’t want a Park Tools Pizza Cutter or bottle opener?!  Also check out our clocks and ornaments from Urban Veggie, handmade out of recycled bicycle gears.

Of course, don’t forget we have BIKES!! Give the gift that keeps on riding – a mountain bike, road bike, hybrid bike, BMX bike or kids bike from Specialized, Cannondale or Felt.

Still can’t decide on a gift?  We have gift cards available in any denomination at the register.  Criterium gift cards never expire and can be used to purchase any product or service.

Give the gift of bicycles!

December 5th, 2013

No matter what your age, there’s nothing like receiving a bicycle as a holiday gift.  We have bikes for all budgets and riding styles here at Criterium.

For the smallest of shredders, we have a complete line of children’s bikes which come with the same level of quality as our adult-sized bikes.  Don’t short-change the little riders by opting for a department-store bicycle.  Instead choose one of our Specialized, Felt, or Cannondale kids bikes.  For the smallest of tykes, get them started with a Specialized Hotwalk – a balance bike designed for youngsters not quite ready for pedals.  When the kids are ready to turn the cranks, get them going with a Specialized HotRock or Cannondale Kids Trail.  These bikes are available in wheel sizes from 12″ to 20″.  The 20″ wheel options also include a 6-speed geared variety in addition to a coaster brake model.  For older children,  the Specialized HotRock 24″ and Cannondale Trail race 24″, with 21 speeds and a suspension fork will have them tearing up the singletrack with Mom and Dad. For kids who would rather shred the skatepark, we also carry Felt BMX street/ park bikes with a 20″ wheel in two different frame sizes.

Keep your youngsters protected by pairing a new bike with proper safety gear.  We have a full line of Specialized kids’ helmets in toddler, child, and youth sizes.  We also carry a wide selection of child-sized gloves, jerseys, shorts, and jackets from Pearl Izumi.

Don’t forget that it’s not just kids who love getting a bike as a holiday gift!  Our shop is stocked full of mountain, road, cyclocross and hybrid bikes for adult riders of all skill levels and sizes.  Stop in to check out the new 2014 models from Specialized, Cannondale, and Felt and to shop our SALE bikes from previous years.

Are you looking to make some room in your garage for a new bike? We accept donations of used bicycles and parts year-round.  Used items are given to our partner groups which help disadvantaged residents of our community. Help a neighbor by donating your used bicycles or gear this holiday season.

There is no bad weather…

November 22nd, 2013

There’s only bad gear.  At least that’s what the adage says.  Ok, so maybe there is some bad weather, but that doesn’t have to stop you from pushing the pedals.  Here are some helpful hints on how to gear up for the elements and the frigid temps:

1. Keep hands and feet warm.  Here at Criterium we have several cold-weather gloves to keep the fingers warm and dry.  A summer weight long-finger glove won’t do when  the temps drop.  Try the Pearl Izumi Cyclone glove or the Specialized Deflect glove.  For the coldest of days, check out the Pearl Izumi PRO Barrier glove or the Specialized Subzero glove, both insulated with Primaloft.  On your feet, use shoe covers or toe warmers.  We have several to choose from by Pearl Izumi, Specialized, and Planet Bike. For even more protection, try the thermal Defroster mountain bike shoe from Specialized.  Keep the toes toasty by pulling on a pair of Save Our Soles merino wool socks or the Cannondale logo Woolie Boolies by DeFeet.

2. Dress in layers.  A long-sleeved jersey is better paired with a shell.  We have softshells and windbreaker jackets from Pearl Izumi, Royal, Specialized, Mavic, and Cannondale. Knee warmers, leg warmers, and arm warmers are good options for days when frosty mornings turn into warm afternoon. Long pants and cycling tights are essential on the coldest of days.  Check out our selection from Specialized, Cannondale, Pearl Izumi and Hincapie.

3. See and be seen. As temps drop so does the amount of daylight.  Early morning and evening commutes call for lights.  Make sure to use a taillight and headlight.  Stop in to see our selection of lights from Lezyne. They come with a rechargeable battery and range in brightness from 200 to 1200 lumens.  Another option for nighttime singletrack adventures is the NiteRider Mini Newt which cranks out 750 lumens.  We also have a selection of “be-seen” gear including reflective vests, reflective ankle straps, and fluorescent jackets.

4. Don’t stop dreaming of warm days.  Seasons change quickly.  Before we know it, we’ll be talking about how hot it is again.  Stock up on warm-weather essentials from our closeout racks.  You’ll find deep discounts on short-sleeved jerseys and shorts from Troy Lee Designs, Race Face, Pactimo, and others.

All of our staff here at Criterium are year-round riders and regular commuters who are here to answer any questions you might have.

Don’t let cold temps slow you down.  With the right gear and some planning, you can keep the wheels spinning outside this winter!
